topic 2 - conspiracies

Conspiracies, Secret Societies, Mad Geniuses and More...

It is my unprovable belief that you can get to absolutely every interesting link on the internet from some link in this website... Which is not to say that I am promoting all of the above, nor even all of the below. These links are simply here because they are interesting, and hey! I 'm Interested in Things.

You can't afford NOT to know about...

Conspiracy Theory: The proponents of conspiracy theory hold that all historical events mask the designs of tricksters, plotters, and evil 'unidentified' forces. Their opponents suggest the opposite, that conspiracy and deception do not exist. Both are sadly mistaken.
(Norman Davies: Europe - A History)

Magic Mushrooms: Terence McKenna contends that hallucinogenic fungi inspired our primate forbears to develop language, boot-strapping us up the evolutionary ladder to the brink of self-realization, and that this humble mushroom is nowready and waiting for us to complete our ontological correspondence course, if we would only tear ourselves away from smack, crack, coke, caffeine, tobacco, alcohol, sugar, cocoa, uppers, downers and all the other badsubstances we are addicted to. He believes that hallucinogenic-plant gnosis is the lost key to our intellectual, moral and spiritual development as a race; that all subsequent drug abuse is merely an attempt to satisfy our primeval urge for psychedelic union with nature ('an itch we cannot scratch'); and that cataclysmic change or certain extinction awaits us. His theory states: 'No perception without hallucination.' (from A psychedelic trip up the ladder of evolution)

Association for Consciousness Exploration (A.C.E.)
Their website is under construction... but I believe that Timothy Leary was among their founders. They run annual festivals, including Starwood.

Discordians: the PRINCIPIA DISCORDIA is the work of a time-travelling anthropologist from the 23rd Century. He is currently passing among us as a computer specialist, bon vivant and philosopher named Gregory Hill. He has also translated several volumes of Etruscan erotic poetry, under another pen-name, and in the 18th Century was the mysterious Man in Black who gave Jefferson the design for the Great Seal of the United States. Robert Anton Wilson: Robert Anton Wilson is the coauthor, with Robert Shea, of the underground classic The Illuminatus! Trilogy, inspired in part by the Principia Discordia.

The Illuminati: Illuminati of Bavaria. This order was first called the Order of Perfectibilists, and was a fairly shortlived, meteoric, controversial society formed May 1, 1776, in Bavaria, by Adam Weishaupt, aided by Baron von Knigge and others, suppressed in 1784, and entirely disappeared by the close of the century. It was not primarily Masonic, and evidently not founded by any Masonic authority, though it pirated or paraphrased Masonic rituals and at one time or another had a number of prominent Freemasons in the group. Freemasonry has received a great many denunciations from several sources by reason of the aberrations of the Illuminati, and the enemies of Freemasonry encouraged the idea that Illuminism and Freemasonry were the same. (from an FAQ)

Free-Masonry: Freemasonry is an ancient fraternity which groups under its banners men of every race, of every nationality and of every religion. Wishing to do away with all cause for division and strife, Freemasons continually seek the means which will help all human beings to unite and become as one in the cause of the good of the whole. Masonic orders are divided into several rites which, though they may differ, spring from the same goal. That common goal is the reunion of Man with his Divine Source. (from Co-Masonry - Masonry for Men and Women)

Co-Masonry:American Co-Masonry is a Masonic order which works the Scottish Rite from the 1st through the 33rd Degree plus some Degrees of the York Rite. That which distinguishes the American Co-Masonic Order from other masonic workings is that, instead of admitting only men to its ranks, it admits women on an equal footing. It is sovereign and does not depend upon any foreign rulership or control. American Co-Masonry proclaims equal rights for both sexes and absolute freedom in the search for truth; the utmost tolerance is required of all members. (from Co-Masonry - Masonry for Men and Women)

Madame Blavatsky: Madame Blavatsky was born in Russia in 1831 and lived till 1891. She is the pioneer esotericist of our age.

What She Did:

Launched the Theosophical Movement calling her message Theosophy.
First introduced knowledge of eastern religions to the West - including the ideas of karma and reincarnation.
First showed that all major religions are derived from one original religious philosophy.
Demonstrated that the ancient wisdom was still known.
Presented a portion of that ancient wisdom.
Performed phenomena not explainable by "known" laws of science.
Gave the logical basis for morality and brotherhood.
Required that the first objective of the Theosophical Movement be Universal Brotherhood without regard to race, creed, sex, caste, or color. (from Blavatsky Net)

Aleister Crowley: Aleister Crowley was an outrageously libeled and slandered man in his time. He was variously called 'monster,' 'degenerate,' traitor,' 'evil,' 'criminal,' 'pornographer,' 'devil worshiper,' and on without end. But he has also been called, by people who knew him and by those who have studied his works, 'genius,' 'prophet of the New Aeon,' 'the greatest occultist of this century,' 'one of the finest poets of the 20th century,' etc. Crowley was a mystic, a magickian, a scholar, a poet, a climber of mountains and probably a true prophet. He certainly became a 'legend in his own time' and will probably attain real recognition only after we of lesser minds have had a chance to digest what he taught and the world has had a chance to catch up to the vision he had.' From the book jacket of 'The Legend of Aleister Crowley' by PR Stephensen and Israel Regardie (1972 edition. Now reprinted by Falcon Press).
